WORLD BOOK DAY, 23rd April 2022

World Book Day, also known as World Book and Copyright Day, or International Day of the Book, is an annual event organized by the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) to promote reading, publishing and copyright. World Book Day was first celebrated on 23 April, 1995. The date as decided by UNESCO as it was the death and birth anniversary of William Shakespeare, a world famous author.

The World Book Day has been celebrated at Library KV AFS JORHAT on 23/04/2022. Some library activities have been organized in the library as well as morning assembly with the lots of cooperation of students, teachers and staff.

 World Heritage Day 2022: Theme, History and Significance


Each  year World Heritage Day is commemorated on April 18 to spread awareness about preserving the history, diversity, and vulnerability of world heritage sites and monuments. This special day marks an understanding of our rich culture and traditions that are worth conserving. The day is celebrated to convey an important message to the younger generations to carry forward our legacy and safeguard our culture. It also intends to recognize the efforts of all people like architects, engineers, geographers, civil engineers, artists and archaeologists, who contribute towards conserving the heritage.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has designated total of 1155 monuments in 167 countries as UNESCO world heritage sites.

World Heritage Day 2022 Theme

Since 1983, the International Council on Monuments and Sites has set a theme around which events are centred on the day. The theme for World Heritage Day 2022 is "Heritage and Climate".

WORLD HERITAGE DAY: SIGNIFICANCE

The World Heritage Day is an internationally recognised day to protect and preserve monuments and historical sites and the rich inheritance associated with them.

The aim and significance of the day are not just restricted to the different historical monuments and sites. It also plays a vital role in securing the cultural integrity of a community. Having a creative and diverse culture, our duty is to not just inherit and respect them, but also to salvage them from any kind of harm as well.

International Mother Language Day 2022: दुनियाभर में आज 21 फरवरी को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मातृभाषा दिवस मनाया जा रहा है। मातृभाषा दिवस को मनाने का उद्देश्य विश्वभर में अपनी भाषा और सांस्कृतिक की विविधताओं के प्रति लोगों में जागरुकता फैलाना है, ताकी दुनिया में बहुभाषिता को बढ़ावा मिल सके। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मातृभाषा दिवस हर साल 21 फरवरी को मनाया जाता है। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मातृभाषा दिवस मनाने का विचार सबसे पहले बांग्लादेश से आया। संयुक्त राष्ट्र शैक्षिक, वैज्ञानिक और सांस्कृतिक संगठन (यूनेस्को) के सामान्य सम्मेलन ने 17 नवंबर 1999 में मातृभाषा दिवस मनाने की घोषणा की। जिसमें फैसला लिया गया कि 21 फरवरी को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मातृभाषा दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाएगा।

पहला अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मातृभाषा दिवस कब मनाया गया?

साल 1952 में बांग्लादेश में ढाका यूनिवर्सिटी के विद्यार्थियों और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं ने अपनी मातृभाषा का अस्तित्व बनाए रखने के लिए 21 फरवरी को एक आंदोलन किया था। इस आंदोलन में बांग्लादेश के कई युवा शहीद हो गए थे। इन शहीद युवाओं की स्मृति में ही यूनेस्को ने पहली बार साल 1991 को ऐलान किया कि 21 फरवरी को मातृभाषा दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाएगा। पहला अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मातृभाषा दिवस साल 2000 में मनाया गया। बांग्लादेश में 21 फरवरी के दिन एक राष्ट्रीय अवकाश होता है। 

साल 2002 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र (यूएन) की महासभा ने यूनेस्को के अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मातृभाषा दिवस मनाने वाले फैसले का स्वागत किया। 16 मई, 2007 को संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने "दुनिया के लोगों द्वारा इस्तेमाल की जाने वाली सभी भाषाओं के संरक्षण को बढ़ावा देने के लिए" सदस्य राज्यों के एक प्रस्ताव भी भेजा था।

 मातृभाषा दिवस क्यों मनाया जाता है?

अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मातृभाषा दिवस मनाने के पीछे का मकसद है कि दुनियाभर की भाषाओं और सांस्कृतिक का सम्मान हो। इस दिन तो मनाये जाने का उद्देश्य विश्व भर में भाषायी और सांस्कृतिक विविधता का प्रचार-प्रसार करना है और दुनिया में विभिन्न मातृभाषाओं के प्रति लोगों को जागरुक करना है।

क्या है साल 2022 के अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मातृभाषा दिवस का थीम?

2022 के अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मातृभाषा दिवस का विषय (थीम), “बहुभाषी शिक्षा के लिए प्रौद्योगिकी का उपयोग: चुनौतियां और अवसर” (“Using technology for multilingual learning: Challenges and opportunities”), बहुभाषी शिक्षा को आगे बढ़ाने और सभी के लिए गुणवत्तापूर्ण शिक्षण और सीखने के विकास का समर्थन करने के लिए प्रौद्योगिकी की संभावित भूमिका पर चर्चा करेगा।

      Character Mapping: Children can be encouraged to identify the main characters of the story and their attributes and read it to the whole class.

Class III-V

SPEAK UP

  • This activity needs to be conducted in pairs. One student is the author/ writer and the other is the fictional character created by the author.
  • Both of students in one pair needs to read a book of character-author pair.
  • They ask each other 5 questions. For e.g. about Ruskin Bond, Swamy and RK Narayan, etc.
  •  Local stories written by writer and their famous character.

Class VI-VIII

Safer Internet Day 2022 will be celebrated on 8th February with the theme ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online’.

From gaming and chat, to streaming and video, young people are shaping the interactive entertainment spaces they are a part of. Safer Internet Day 2022 celebrates young people’s role in creating a safer internet, whether that is whilst gaming and creating content, or interacting with their friends and peers.

Retell the tale

  • Summarizing the Story: Children are encouraged to read and then summarize the story in about 5 sentences.
  • Such an activity helps them to think about the story from its beginning to its end.
  •  It also helps them in understanding and differentiating between the important and not-so-important elements of the story.

CLASS III - V

Folklore Fun

 The teacher can select an interesting folk tale from the rich heritage of the partner state under the Ek Bharat Shresht Bharat program and read it in class and ask some students to enact it out.

  • This is followed by a mock press interview where students take the role of the key characters and the others are assigned the role of the press

Class I-II

SHARED READING
· Shared reading is important for early literacy and most effective for Grade 1 and Grade 2 children.
· Teacher has to read the book to children while simultaneously bringing their attention to the text and pictures of a book, the children tend to match the spoken words with the written word and slowly try to read the book.
· Through this process children learn how teachers read the books from left to right with expressions.

Class III-V

SET THE SCENE
· The teacher divides the class into groups of 4 or 5.
· He/ she presents them with a setting (describes any setting, for example: old fort/
desert/ playground) and describes characters from the setting such as king/ queen/ dragon/ farmer/ camel/ magician/ children.
· Then the teacher asks them to construct a short story that can be read aloud by one of the
group members

Class VI-VIII

READ WITH FRIENDS & SIBLINGS

READ A STORY TO YOUR JUNIOR/BROTHER/SISTER.

Read a story that you have already read and like a lot. Modulate your voice and read with expression to make the story interesting.
