It is celebrated to mark the birthday of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, an Indian jurist, politician, philosopher, anthropologist, historian and economist who was the principal architect of the Constitution of India.

Dr. Ambedkar was born on 14 April 1891. Born into a poverty, Ambedkar campaigned against the Indian caste system. He became a convert to Buddhism and is seen as a driving force in the surge of converts that saw many thousands of lower caste members become Buddhists.

Ambedkar was the first untouchable of India to pursue a college degree. He earned a law degree and doctorates for his studies in law, economics and political science, gaining a reputation as a scholar and campaigning for political rights and social freedom for the lowest in the caste system, untouchables.

In 1927, Dr. Ambedkar organised and led a march at Mahad, Maharashtra that eventually helped established equal rights for untouchable people who were not allowed to touch or our taste the water of Chawdar Lake.

Dr. Ambedkar died on 6 December 1956 and was posthumously awarded the 'Bharat Ratna', India's highest civilian award, in 1990.

Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated not just in India but all around the world. Ambedkar struggled for equality throughout his life, hence his birthday is celebrated as 'Equality Day' in India, and the demand to declare this day as "International Equality Day" goes to the United Nations.

Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has often shared his vision of building a new, AatmaNirbhar Bharat by the year 2022.

You may be aware that our great nation is now just 75 weeks away from the 75th Anniversary of Indian Independence (Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav).

The Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India is glad to announce creative participation competition on the occasion of celebrating the 75th year of India’s Independence “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”. This celebration would commence 75 weeks prior to Independence Day 2022 and will extend up to Independence Day 2023. On this occasion of great significance the Ministry is glad to announce this competition to explore the creative instinct of students and encourage them to pen their ideas on the related themes of Indian Independence.

The World Consumer Rights Day is celebrated every year on March 15. The day is observed to raise awareness about a consumer's rights and needs so as to enable the consumer to fight against social injustices. The World Consumer Rights Day 2021 theme is to gather all the consumers in a fight to "Tackle Plastic Pollution".

History

The consumer movement in India started in 1966 from Maharashtra. After the establishment of the Grahak Panchayat in Pune in the year 1974, institutions for consumer welfare were formed in many states and this movement continued to grow. On 9 December 1986, the Consumer Protection Bill was passed on the initiative of the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and came into force nationwide after the President's signature. Last year, on 20 July, an amendment in this law has been made to make customers more empowered, competent.

The Central Government has made several major changes in the Consumer Protection Act. After the enactment of the new consumer law, the accountability of companies and artists who advertise for them has become more than ever. The government has also included e-commerce companies under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 (Consumer Protection Act, 2019).

India observes 2 Martyr’s Days or Shaheed Diwas every year. January 30 and March 23 to honour the sacrifices made by Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev and countless other brave Indian freedom fighters who fought for the independence, glory and welfare of India. India and 15 other countries in the world celebrate Martyr’s Day to give respect to the courageous champions.

1st Martyr Day or Shaheed Diwas:

Mahatma Gandhi, The Father of the Nation and the most renowned name in the history of India's freedom struggle was assassinated by Nathuram Godse in the Birla House on January 30, 1948.

2nd Martyr Day or Shaheed Diwas:

Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were executed in Lahore for their revolutionary actions against the British empire on March 23, 1931. The trio was condemned to death for conspiring to kill a British police officer, John P Saunders. The execution happened a day before the scheduled date.

REPUBLIC DAY 2021

Republic Day is celebrated on January 26 every year to remember the day when the Constitution of India came into effect after India gained independence after a very long freedom struggle. A salute of 21 guns and the unfurling of the Indian National Flag by Dr. Rajendra Prasad heralded the historic birth of the Indian Republic on that day. Thereafter 26th of January was decreed a national holiday and was recognised as the Republic Day of India. Ever since the historic day, January 26 is celebrated with festivities and patriotic fervor all around the country.

The celebrations inaugrate with a grand parade is held in the capital, New Delhi, from Raisina Hill near the Rashtrapati Bhavan (President's House), along the Rajpath, past India Gate and on to the historic Red Fort. The event begins with the Prime Minister of India laying a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate, commemorating all the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country. Soon, a 21 gun salute is presented, the President unfurls the National Flag and the National Anthem is played. This marks the beginning of a series of magnificent parades by Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, police, and paramilitary forces. All the states of India showcase their culture, uniqueness by building beautiful tableaus.

As a part of Republic Day celebration”, an online quiz competition, essay competition and poetry competition on the theme of “Indian Constitution struggle for freedom, warriors of Indian independence” is being organized by the Ministry of Education in association with the Ministry of Defence from 20^th January to 30^th January 2021.

To celebrate the soul of “Republic day” while adhering to COVID-19 protocols, Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India, in association with Ministry of Defence, has organized online Essayand Patriotic Poetry Competition during the period of 20th  January to 30th January, 2021 on MyGov platform.

National Youth Day is observed every year on January 12 to honour the teachings and ideals of Swami Vivekananda. Born on January 12, 1863, in Kolkata, Swami Vivekananda was a chief disciple of the 19th-century Indian mystic Ramakrishna and was a key figure in the introduction of the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the western world. Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission.

National Road Safety Week 2021

Road Safety Week in India 2021 – 11th Jan

Road Safety Week is organised every year in the month of January by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. A variety of programs related to the road safety is organised in several cities to enlighten people on road safety, driving rules and cautions. During the whole week celebration of this campaign, variety of educational banners, safety posters, safety films, pocket guides and leaflets related to the road safety are distributed to the on road travelers.

In 2021 we are celebrating 32nd National Road Safety Week. At first in the year 1989 awareness for the National Road Safety Week was celebrated and at that time about 36,000 had lost their lives. So this tragic story is related to the observation of this awareness week.

32nd National Road Safety Week 2021 theme, ‘Safe yourself to save your family’. Apply all the safety measures while going through a vehicle and always follow the traffic rules.

Road Safety Rules for Kids / Children

Know your Safety Signal

Your kid should know about basic traffic signals, such as vehicles have to stop at the ‘red’ light and ‘green’ means the vehicle should resume driving, etc. Doing so will help them understand that they can cross a road once the vehicles come to a stop

Safety Rules while crossing the road

Stop, Look, And Cross- At times, your child may have to walk on a public road alone, He should know that when crossing a street, he should first stop and look for any approaching vehicle and start crossing the street only if there’s no vehicle in sight. Of course, at traffic signals, he should cross the road only when the light goes red.

Always Pay Attention – Listen to Warnings

Pay Attention – Ask your kids to pay attention to horns and even to sounds of the vehicle so that they can judge if there is some car or motorcycle driving towards them from a bend or from behind

Never Run On Busy Roads and Crossing Time

Don’t Run On Roads – Children should never run on roads as that might not only cause them to lose balance and fall on a busy street but also because it might confuse other road-users, who might end up colliding with the kid

Always Use Sidewalk

Kids should use a footpath (Sidewalk) when walking on the road. Set an example for them by using the walking paths yourself

Crossroads and Pedestrian Crossing – Kids tend to start running or walking across a street, anywhere they wish to. This is dangerous and kids should be to told to cross a road only on a pedestrian crossing and when the vehicular movement is suspended during a red light.

Never Stick Hands Outside The Vehicle

Kids often put their hands out of the school bus or at times, even put their heads out but this is very dangerous and kids should be told to not do this at any cost

Avoiding Blind Spots

Never Cross Road At Bends – There are blind spots for many motorists on a bend and they might not be able to see your child crossing a road on the bend. Hence, kids should avoid crossing the road at bends

Staying Safe On A Bicycle – In case your child uses a bicycle, he should avoid riding it fast and always wear a helmet. Also, he should ensure the bicycle is in good condition and always ride it in a bicycle lane. In case the bicycle lane isn’t present, he should ride it in the left-most lane.

Staying Safe Inside A Moving Vehicle – In a moving vehicle, a kid should be always belted up, never stand or disturb the driver

Being Safe When getting in and out of Vehicle

Always Get Out At The Curb Side  – Always get off the bus from the curbside so that there’s no danger of colliding with a moving vehicle

Never open the car door suddenly as there might be a vehicle coming from behind and sudden opening of the door might cause the vehicle to collide with it.

Never do the Multitask While Walking on Road

Be Seen, Stay Safe – Never dress in dark clothes when going out at night. It is important that vehicle drivers notice you from a reasonable distance

Also, be focused on the road and stay aware of the surroundings. Do not multitask.

Crossing the Road Only at Zebra Crossings

Children should remember that pedestrians have the right of way at pedestrian crossings or zebra crossings and should use them to cross a road when vehicles have stopped at a red light. Never play or run at bus stops or on the road.
